Yasmine is a Can-Indian beauty from ‘Can-eda!’ (like our parents say). She started singing at the tender age of 4, growing up with the sounds of Diana Ross, the phenomenal Stevie Wonder, Alison Krauss and soon influenced by the world beats of Nitin Sawhney. Yasmine discovered that people would listen to her sing and so she thought of taking to the next level. Aren’t we lucky! To her, music is how she expresses her emotions…whether it is love, pain, struggle or celebretion. Our guess is, she’s not struggling in love tooooo much. Yasmine’s sound is World. The sitar, tabla, doumbek, djembe, udu, and bansuri (haha, yes the bansuri..brings back memories of snake dancing, now banned in India!) resonate and culminate to create an innovative fusion of East meets West. Working with her sister, a lyricist, they have created a vision about life, death and the circle of humanity. The songs speak of love, faith, spirit, contemplation, turmoil, identity and ultimately, the search within to discover one’s own destiny. It is a very dear family project. Their music has a lot of mainstream elements. The combination of East meets West with strong lyrics appeal to those individuals wanting to groove to the neat instruments and be moved by the words. So check it the our desi hottie from Can-eda, and what’s better are the sounds she produces (now, no dirty thoughts Desi Hits! boys!!!).
