It is none other than Jaswinder Singh Bains, a.k.a. Jazzy B who is quite easily the most recognizable voice and face in Bhangra today. Over the past decade and a half, he has shot to the top of the genre, and according to some, now resides in an echelon of his own. He has consistently redefined himself as an artist, pushing the limits, going against the norm, and evolving into a fashion icon.
After reviewing some flashes of Jazzy's past, one can truly appreciate the evolution:
1993-1997 Kid-N-Play: Flattop hairstyle, Karl Kani hoody and chukkas

Jazzy B, 1993
1998-2000 Rasta: Curled, center-parted, almost dreadlocked hair tied back with a bandana

Jazzy B- 1998
2001-2006 P. Diddy of Punjab: Highlighted, spiked, and sculpted hairdo. Patent leather suit, crocodile skin shoes, enough bling to blind someone

Jazzy B- 2000
2007 JB the Urban Gangsta: Baggy jeans, oversized throwback basketball jersey, baseball cap cocked to the side, flashing hand signs from the passenger side of his Hummer H2

Jazzy B-2007
2008 Rambo the Italian Don: Custom designer suit, Italian fedora hat, silk scarf, and iced-out accessories
Of course, these are just examples - a few pages pulled from the Jazzy B Manual of Style.

if these images are held next to each other, one might wonder how such a chameleon can have any kind of identity. Yes, he clearly experiments with his style, and often those experiments tend to border the outrageous. Yes, he goes well beyond what his contemporaries may attempt, even across genres. But what makes Jazzy B Jazzy B is the consistent willingness to take that gamble and to walk with confidence. Frankly, that's enough to pull it off.
Jazzy B's identity is one of transition and risk. Coupled with tremendous talent, this has been his formula for success for over 15 years. These are the reasons why he is Bhangra's Superman. Sure, Clark Kent can put on a different colored cape, but when he emerges from the telephone booth, he's still faster than a speeding bullet and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.
From bandana to beret, from kurta to croc skin, when it comes to fashion and taking risks, we can all learn a thing or two from Professor Bains.
