The Making of the Pussycat Dolls in Sarees

September 08 2008 23:00 PST

"It was a challenge to make all parties happy," said retail and fashion expert Hitha Prabhakar while referring to the key components of this collaboration - Desi Hits!, the Pussycat Dolls, and Rocky S.  Upon getting a call from Desi Hits! CEO, Anjula Acharia-Bath, Hitha contemplated taking on this task, "I didn't know if I could deliver at the level they wanted me to," commented Prabhakar in regards to the fact that she's been off the styling scene for a while.

Hitha started off in the industry as a fashion journalist and then was approached by MTV to work as a stylist for their network.  Since then Hitha has continued to grow as a fashion writer and correspondent.  Her agreement to get back into the game and style PCD proved her strong ability to deliver in styling.  CEO of Desi Hits! Acharia-Bath knew of her creative genius, so she knew it would be a great success to team Hitha with Rocky S and the Pussycat Dolls.

The process began with several phone conversations between Rocky S and Prabhakar.  "We wanted to not only have Bollywood elements but also keep the essence of the Pussycat Dolls," remarked Prabhakar when referring to their joint vision of the sarees.  After a lot of hard work the team came up with beautiful silk black sarees with intricate gold embroidery.  The day of the event was exhausting for Hitha, Anjula Acharia-Bath and Rocky S as they spent the day in preparation for the girls to hit the red carpet for the world renowned fashion music event.  "I asked my assistant if it would be totally gross if I just laid down on the hotel floor," joked Prabhakar while commenting on the long day spent in the hotel room of the Pussycat Dolls.

The result was amazing and the Pussycat Dolls were thrilled with the results as well.  They happily showed off their sarees to the rest of the Desi Hits! crew before hitting the red carpet.  "I feel honored to wear a saree," said lead PCD, Nicole Scherzinger. The couture outfits were not the typical sarees that you'd see your average auntie wear but it was the perfect look for them.  "We wanted to show off their great bodies," mentioned Prabhakar.

Hitha has written for several major magazines, made numerous appearances on television as a fashion expert and you can check her out at:  www.hithaprabhakar.com.

The ladies Sarees were complimented by their shoes designed by  Giuseppe Zanotti and earrings by Tejani
