The Real-Life Spider-Man of India

July 24 2009 16:40 PST

Dubbed as "India's Spider-Man", 22-year-old Jyothi Raj seems to be glued to the wall with his amazing ability to hang upside down on a vertical surface without using safety equipment. Jyothi, who lives in the south of India, discovered his incredible climbing ability four years ago while scaling bamboo scaffolding widely used in the sub-continent. Jyothi realized that he had an uncanny ability to place his hands and feet in exactly the right areas for a speedy climb. Climbing the local fort in Chitradurga, Jyothi claims he feels no fear as he reaches heights of up to 300ft without using a harness. Looking at the crowd, he smiled and said, "I love to see their faces when I hang upside down and hear them holding their breath for my safety. My ability is proof that I was born to climb." Usually appearing every Sunday at the Chitradurga fort to entertain the crowds of tourists, Jyothi hopes one day to open his own climbing school. Jyothi also said how he learned to climb by watching monkeys then honed his skills on construction site scaffolding. Check out these pics and video below and tell us if you think that this man really is a real-life Spider-Man.
