As we reported on Monday, "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Twilight" are going head-to-head at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.  Both are nominated for Best Movie, so that should be an interesting decision the voters will make there.  Now, of course we know that "Slumdog Millionaire" has flat out dominated the award shows this year, winning nearly everything that it has been nominated for.  Not only that, it did very well at the box office and had a big cultural significance.  "Twilight" on the other hand is a movie about a vampire.  You're probably thinking, "This will be no match for 'Slumdog' when the award winners are read."  Well I'm here to tell you, while you might be very optimistic about "Slumdog" and its chances of winning, I'll just rain on your parade by saying while "Slumdog Millionaire" does have a puncher's chance of winning, "Twilight" will walk away victorious!

Before you guys fill up the comments section jumping all over me in anger wondering how I could actually pick against "Slumdog Millionaire," I'm going to break it down as to why "Twilight" really should be the favorite for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.  First of all, this is not the typical award show.  MTV is always different as to how they approach award shows.  It's all about the controversy.  What better way to be controversial to say "Slumdog Millionaire wins everywhere but here! Ha Ha!"  Not to say that they'll get robbed, but they win so much it almost makes award shows in 2009 too predictable.  Switch up the award winners for a change!

Secondly, while we love the romantic story of Latika and Jamal, how many love stories do we see at the movies every year?  We love how it was portrayed, but a regular love story?  Yawn.  Give me the love story between Bella and Edward, a human and a vampire any day.  You might disagree, but watch MTV agree with me.  We can see a love story every day.  How many times can we see a 108 year old vampire love a 17 year old girl?  Lastly, the MTV Movie Awards don't judge a movie on its merit.  Even if it did, "The Dark Knight" should win over both of these movies.  "Slumdog" may have had the better script and the more heartwarming story that had you yelling "Jai Ho," but "Twilight" had the action, the execution (not literally), and most of all, a different spin on romance.

These two movies share some odd similarities.  Both movies are adaptations for books, they have love stories in them, and even weirder, both movies end with dancing.   They were also worldwide hits, so this is far from a David vs. Goliath matchup.  However, "Slumdog Millionaire" will just have to enter this award show the way it did before it started winning anything and everything: the underdog.
