The 7th UK AMA's were held last night where the best of the best were getting their due for their hard work and talent.  The event, held at the Royal Festival Hall, was definitely a showcase for new and old British Asian acts to get together in the same spotlight.

Jay Sean won three awards, including Best Male Act and Best Album for 'My Own Way.'  M.I.A. won for Best Female Act, but due to the birth of her son whose name is still withheld, she was unable to attend. 

Big time producer Rishi Rich took home the award for Best Producer, but he also won the award for Commitment to the Scene. Rishi Rich Productions also took the stage and showed everyone the new stuff they've been working out.

Just as good as the awards last night were the performances.  Amar performed her new song, 'Show it Off' with Timbaland affiliated producers Jim Beanz and Rebel.  R&B act Jagged Edge came through to perform with Brit-Asian producer Shayal and D Boy, Sef, Truth, and Romeo of So Solid got together on stage to give a hot performance.  Last night was undoubtedly the beginning of the trend of up and coming British acts collaborating with some of the top artists and producers from the UK and the US. It sounded real good last night so hopefully it continues.

The big surprise of the night came when former member of the Fugees Pras teamed up with British Asian singer and actress Preeya Kalidas.That was very much unexpected.  We also saw a funky twist to A. R. Rahman's "Ringa Ringa" from the soundtrack of Oscar winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire" performed by Karen David, Shahin Badar and Metz and Trix.  Speaking of A.R. Rahman, he won the Outstanding Achievement Award for all his work. This was a fitting award for him after all of the amazing work he has made over the last nearly two decades.
