The director of mega hit, 'Monsoon Wedding," Mira Nair chose Nitin Sawhney to compose the music for her new film 'The Namesake' to make it "a flag of Desi creative power." Nitin Sawhey is considered one of Britain's MOST original and gifted music creators. "The lyrics and the rhythm captured the elegant soulfulness of traditional Bhatali songs, and Nitin's elegant scoring made it modern. I had loved Nitin's concert music, and it was to him I turned for the score, keen to make 'The Namesake' a flag of desi creative power," says Nair.
What can we expect from the composer extrodinaire....well from what we know the movie is all about mood! He's going to take us on a journey of emotions and spirit from classical to contemporary. According to Sawhney, "The score is subsequently both intimate and haunting, reflecting the sense of empathy, inner beauty and nostalgia evoked by the story. The whole experience was an inspiration on so many levels."
Look for the soundtrack to be released on March 6th AND the film hits theatres on March 9th. Want to comment on this article? [ Sign in ] or [ get a FREE account ] at Desi Hits! (You get access to free MP3s and other stuff, too).
