Up-and-coming pop artist Anjulie is out with a new video from her self-entitled album. The Canadian singer and songwriter with Caribbean roots blends urban beats with flamenco-flavored tunes and the result is "Rain."
Desi Hits! met with Anjulie a while ago and she told us that she has always been around music and gets her inspiration from all kinds of styles.
"I grew up in a house where there was always music. My parents played calypso and reggae and on the other end of the spectrum, my brother listened to Michael Jackson, so I think I've been influenced by that. And when I was growing up I really loved Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill," which was truly an amazing album encompassing female independence."
As for shooting the video, Anjulie had this to say:
"I shot this video with Adria Petty. We wanted to go with a very dark vibe for the video and were inspired by film noir, old Hollywood and Italian Vogue circa 1970. We shot this in the presidential suite of the Biltmore hotel in downtown Los Angeles. It's where they shot the very first Academy Awards ceremony, which was fitting with the video because it has a very cinematic feel. We stayed away from the literal storyline and decided to expose the raw emotion.. a violation of intimacy."
Check out the video for "Rain" and tell us what you think. Will the real-life inspired song become a hit? Share your thoughts.
