If you're wondering who is the man behind "Day n' Nite" then wonder no more. Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, is an up and coming rapper, singer, producer, and songwriter that is looking to make his mark on 2009. So far, he is doing just that as he just charted his first Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 single with "Day n' Nite" this past week. Not bad for an independently released song that took off basically by word of mouth. You've probably heard the version remixed by Crookers, making this sullen song an unlikely dance club hit.
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Kid Cudi jumped onto the scene last year with his independent mixtape "A Kid Named Cudi." The mixtape spread like wildfire due to "Day n' Nite" and he instantly became a favorite amongst critics. While he is a hip-hop artist, there are influences in his music that are from such genres as house and electronic music. Every magazine out there is going crazy over Kid Cudi, from Rolling Stone to The Source to XXL, which listed him as one of the ten best Freshman MC's to look out for in 2009. While success is seemingly coming overnight for the 25 year old, do not get it confused. He has put in his fair share of work on the way to his own success.
If you didn't pick up Kid Cudi's debut mixtape, don't worry about it. You can still find it online for free download. To those that hadn't heard him there, his official introduction to the public came on Kanye West's R&B tinged album "808s and Heartbreak." If you're wondering who is singing the hook alongside Kanye on his latest hit "Welcome to Heartbreak," you guessed it. It's Cudi. Kanye West was so impressed with Kid Cudi's initial work that he signed the artist to his GOOD Music label, joining other artists like John Legend and Common. Now, Kid Cudi is preparing his debut album, "Man on the Moon: The Guardians" scheduled for a summer release date. If the clichéd hip-hop is not what suits you at the moment, then Kid Cudi is the perfect guy to listen to.
Kid Cudi is also slated to have the official theme song for the new Transformers movie called "Sky Might Fall" which is also his next single. Before you know it, Kid Cudi will be everywhere, and when his music becomes inescapable, know that Desi Hits! was one of the many sites that believed Kid Cudi would make it to the top. Now here's the music video to his first of hopefully many hit singles, "Day n' Nite." Watch the video, be entertained, and then post a comment about Kid Cudi and whether you think he'll become a big star or whether he'll be a flash in the pan.
