'Water' makes a splash at the Oscars!!!

It’s with great pride AND enthusiasm that Desi Hits! announces, India-born director Deepa Mehta's film ‘Water’ is among the FINAL five Oscar award nominations for best foreign language category! ‘Water’, set in pre-independence India and focusing on the travails of Hindu widows, was Canada's official entry to the coveted awards. For Indian buffs, the Hindi-language film's inclusion would be some consolation after India's official entry, ‘Rang De Basanti’, did not make it to the competition...maybe next year Amir! 'Water' is a true visual and emotional tapestry that demands immediate viewing, so RUN - don't walk to check it out! 'Water' competes with 'After the Wedding' (Denmark), "Days of Glory" (Algeria), 'The Lives of Other' (Germany) and 'Pany's Labyrinth' (Mexico) for the best foreign film. The winner will be announced at a glittering ceremony on Feb 25, 2007 at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre in California. Will we get to see a glimpse of the amazingly gorgeous stars, Lisa Ray and John Abraham on the red carpet...stay tuned!!!!

My thoughts, it is a shame that Indian cinema is not as exposed to the Western World as Latino or French movies. I would very much like to see that "Water" does get nominated. After watching the Oscars and Lagaan did not make it, I stopped watching the Oscars. I still don't see how that Mama....something, something movie was chosen over Lagaan.
