And the person leaving this week on American Idol is... drum roll please...
Nobody!
That's 100% correct! Nobody was eliminated this week on American Idol as Matt Giraud was spared from having to walk the proverbial Idol plank. Matt received the lowest amount of votes after butchering Bryan Adams' "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?" but was able to sing for his Idol life and sway the judges' minds, or most of them at least.
Simon Cowell was brutally honest about Matt's performance this week and his outlook for the rest of the competition. Simon went so far as to say, "I don't see that you have really any chance of winning the competition," and that his performance the night before was better than the performance he had that he needed to stick around. Cowell shocked everyone except for myself I guess when he said, "Matt, we've made a decision. Matt, it's good news." It was reminiscent about how Anoop Desai almost didn't even make the final cast before Simon surprised everyone legitimately by adding another roster spot for Anoop.
The Idol judges' use of the pass was pretty predictable as next week they will be down to five contestants. Since the judges couldn't use their one time only save past next week, now was as good a time as ever to apply it. They would have used it no matter what. Besides, nobody who is there right now is comically bad anymore so it gives Matt Giraud, Lil Rounds, and Anoop Desai who were in the bottom three a chance to redeem themselves.
Now I know everyone wants Desi favorite Anoop Desai to win this competition. I'm here to say, while I'm rooting for him just like you are at home, he practically lives in the bottom three now even though he didn't deserve to be there this week. If I had to go with my gut on this one, I'd say the odds of Anoop surviving not one but two eliminations this week are very slim. It's out of the judges' hands now so whatever decision America makes is final, but with Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, and Adam Lambert looking like the three favorites to win the competition, I wouldn't bet the farm on Anoop Desai much longer.
On the star power side of things, Miley Cyrus, or "Hannah Montana" to your younger siblings, performed her big hit "The Climb." The star of the show however was Jennifer Hudson, who was a former Idol contestant herself. She was eliminated prematurely, which was the inspiration for the one time only save for Matt Giraud, so Matt, thank your lucky stars. She sang her latest single, "If This Isn't Love," showing just how far the now Academy Award and Grammy Award winning singer has come since her Idol audition days.
Simon Cowell made sure to warn the contestants to not get too comfy just because Matt Giraud got saved. He said, "I wouldn't be so quick to congratulate him. Number one, two people are going home next week now. Second piece of bad news, next week is disco week." Yes, disco week is next week so this might be a good episode for you to watch with your parents who were probably into that music. Also performing next week will be last year's runner-up, David Archuleta, who has had success with his debut album since Idol ended.
So who do you guys think will be on the chopping block next week? Can Anoop defy the odds and make it into the top 5 or will he have only a small consolation that he didn't get to go home alone? Let us know who you have winning the competition.

Precisely y i loathe all these "Idol" shows ..
Navygirl….who the hell do you think you are? What the hell makes you think you’re the only AMERICAN here? New flash…just because you may be white, doesn’t make you an AMERICAN. Like wise, just because you are not white, doesn’t make you any less of an AMERICAN. I understand bigots like your self care not to acknowledge that fact! I am an American, and I think Anoop can sing……
I personally think Anoop sucks, he should've been gone a longggg time ago. He's here only because he's indian........Anoop can't sing period at least not to US the americans.......
since 2 ppl r goin home next week wudnt it make sense for the ppl going home to be the bottom 2? anoop was in the bottom 3... lil rounds + matt were in the bottom 2 so i think theyll go home next week.
And FUCK Norah Jones! Fuck with a capital F. That piece of shit refuses to acknowledge her Indian heritage. She once stated “I know nothing about the country, nothing about the culture, nothing about the language. I’m just a Texas girl†Does she really believe her innate musical talents came from her mother’s side?? Please!
Yasminder is right. Anoop performance was one of the best of the night. Don’t take my word for it. Check out EW.com and some other sites. The writers there thought his performance was second to best. But even then, he still didn’t get enough votes to stay out of the bottom three. I hate to think that America wouldn’t vote for Anoop because, well, he’s of Indian decent. I really would hate to think that especially after the election of President Obama. But yea…everyone needs to vote!!!!! Not just once or twice or three times. I’m talking about 50+ times. Don’t think of it as a waste of time. It’s all for the greater good! It’s all for the advancement of Indian Americans in the mainstream. And you know what tops it all?? Anoop is an extraordinary singer.
they say he had the 2nd best performance behind adam lambert the gay emo guy. And yet no one is voting for him! bottom 3?? ppl get out and vote. international votes count too!! find out how on "Anoop Desai: American Idol" on facebook! lets get a desi to mainstream music (if he wins he'll beat Jay Sean to be first in American... not counting Norah Jones i guess)
