Asin Thottumkal was born on October 26, 1985 in Koci, Kerala to a Roman Catholic, Syrian Christian family. Her father, Joseph Thottumkal, was a successful entrepreneur, managing several businesses before retiring to commit his time to his daughter. Her mother, Celine, is a surgeon who has continually moved her practice in order to remain near her daughter. From a young age, Asin found success in the film industry as she headlined in many hits. This may be in thanks to her father because of the direction he steered her towards as her manager.
This Indian film actress starred in nearly twenty films since her theatrical debut in 2001. Since then her star has been on the rise without a stop anytime soon.
Asin made her debut in the 2001 film "Narendran Maken Jayakanthan Laka" at the age of fifteen. Although the film was not a success, Asin was still determined to be a star. Subsequently, her next two films won her much praise. She won the Teluga Filmfare award for best actress for her work in "Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi" and a best actress award for "Nagarjuna". Those major successes won her the title as leading actress in Teluga film.
In addition, her role in "Ghajini" brought her renowned recognition as she was dubbed the leading South Indian actress. Thereafter, she also starred in the Bollywood version of the film, winning the award for Filmfare Best Hindi Debut.
As Asin knocked out hit after hit, her praise and recognition grew to great lengths. She had finally reached the level of success she sought after as a child. She was quoted as saying her name means without blemish and pure, which truly suits the work she has done thus far. The "A" comes from Sanskrit and the "sin" comes from English. The symbolism of her name is that it bridges the east and west as her work does.
