Irrfan Khan was born on November 30, 1962 in Jaipur, India. While studying for his Masters in Arts degree he received a scholarship from the National School of Drama. Irrfan Khan graduated from there in 1987 and began his career on television. He appeared in series such as 'Chanakya','Sara Jahan Hamara' 'Banegi Apni Baat' and 'Chandrakanta'…
Irrfan Khan was born on November 30, 1962 in Jaipur, India. While studying for his Masters in Arts degree he received a scholarship from the National School of Drama. Irrfan Khan graduated from there in 1987 and began his career on television. He appeared in series such as 'Chanakya','Sara Jahan Hamara' 'Banegi Apni Baat' and 'Chandrakanta' and Darr.
Irrfan Khan would continue to work on television and in theatre until he was offered a role in the 1988 film “Salaam Bombay.†His acting was recognized in 2004 with a Filmfare Best Villain Award for his role in “Hassil.†Irrfan Khan’s real shot to fame came in the 2001 film “The Warrior†directed by Asif Kapadia. His first bollywood film came in 2005 with “Rog.†In 2007 he won another Filmfare for Best Supporting Actor with the film “Life in a Metro.â€
Irrfan has received success on an international scale as well. He appeared in the film “The Namesake†adapted from the Jhumpa Lahiri novel. He would also show up in films such as “A mighty Heart†alongside Agelina Jolie and “The Darjeeling Limited†with Owen Wilson. In his latest Hollywood film, Irrfan Khan plays a police inspector in the critically acclaimed “Slumdog Millionaire.†For his role he won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.
His latest Bollywood film is “Billu Barber†where he stars with Shahrukh Khan. Irrfan Khan will also resume his role as a police inspector in the much anticipated film “New York†which covers life after the events on September 11th, 2009. Even though Khan has become a Bollywood staple, he still continues to work in television. He has anchored and hosted several shows over the years.
Irrfan Khan is married to writer Sutapa Sikdar Khan, the couple has two sons.
