Karan Johar is the talented son of producer Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. He was born on May 25, 1972 in Mumbai, India. Coming from a movie background, Karan was already affiliated with the Bollywood celebs of today such as Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan, although he was known to not be incredibly proud of that Bollywood background as a child.
Karan Johar studied at Greenlawns High School, and Commerce and Economics at H R College. He continued his studies and received a Master’s degree in French. Although Film Studies was not a part of his curriculum in school, he was always an avid Bollywood buff.
Karan is widely known for his amazing directing and producing skills, but he has also been actively involved in television and fashion. Karan’s first real encounter with the Hindi film industry was when his friend Aditya Chopra involved him in his film “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge” as both an assistant and actor. He also assisted his father in the making of the home production, “Duplicate.”
That same year Karan Johar made the film, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” with Shahrukh Khan, who had encouraged him to go into story writing and directing. Karan Johar’s first venture was a super hit and it didn’t stop there. He paired with his favorite actor, SRK, and made blockbuster movies like “Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham,” “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna” and “My Name is Khan.”
Karan’s involvement in the TV industry has been equally successful. He began with the 1989 TV serie, “Indradhanush” and went on to create the blockbuster talk show, “Koffee with Karan.” He has also hosted “Lift Kara De” and been involved in Yash Raj Films television ventures.
The multi-talented man has also been behind some of the amazing outfits that are seen in many different movies. Karan’s fashion sense led to him helping out with costumes in “Dil To Pagal Hai,” “Duplicate,” “Veer Zaara,” and “Main Hoon Na.” He acted as costume designer for “Mohabbatein” and “Om Shanti Om.” Karan keeps interacting with fans as an avid user of Twitter and even asked them to help him rename his latest movie, a remake of the Hollywood flick, “Stepmom.”
