Toronto Canada

Russell Peters was born on 29 September, 1970 in Toronto, Canada to Anglo-Indian parents. Russell began performing comedy shows in Toronto at the age of 19, doing stand-up acts at local bars and clubs. Eventually the bars started to reach maximum occupancy because people were so eager to hear Russell’s hilarious acts. Because of his popularity, Russell went on to do bigger shows at bigger arenas with even bigger crowds!

In 2005, Russell was the first South Asian to headline and sell-out the famous Apollo Theatre in New York City. In 2007, The Canadian native became the first comedian to sell-out Toronto’s Air Canada Center. His climb to the top didn’t stop there - only a year later Russell became one of the few comedians to ever headline and sell-out the world famous Madison Square Garden, home to internationally known acts like Jay-Z and Madonna.

Russell doesn’t just tell jokes; he tackles the absurdity of serious topics like racism and diversity. He mimics the cultural backdrop his parents would use when disciplining him as a child and how that can be applied to all children growing up in a Desi home. Russell also makes observations about all cultures and religions and mocks them in a light-hearted yet hilarious way. His latest DVD “Outsourced” gives viewers an excellent overview of Russell’s comedic genius. It has even gone eleven times Platinum!

Audiences and critics agree that Russell Peters is one genius act. He has been nominated for four Gemini Awards and has been featured on a number of comedy shows that only feature the best in the business. He has reached over 50,000 million views on YouTube. In fact, he credits some of his success to the popular video site because it has created a global demand for Russell’s comedy that people are still demanding every day.
