Dev who is played by Abhay Deol is the son of a rich Punjabi Business man. Dev and his longtime childhood sweetheart Paro end up splitting. Dev goes to London to study and Paro patiently waits for him at home while he finishes school.
When he returns from his stay in London Dev treats Paro differently. He begins to shun her because of rumors that have been spread around.
The rumors claimed that Paro was having affairs with other men. This angers Dev and causes him to run off to Delhi while Paro is married off to a rich widower. During his stay in Delhi Dev meets a prostitute named Chanda. She has been shunned by her family after an MMS scandal and despite an emotional connection they share, remorse drives him to excesses.
The movie is actually a modern day interpretation of the classic novel 'Devdas' by Sarat Chandra. The characters in the film reflect them moods, attitudes and actions of today’s youth, the main conflict being their eastern roots challenged by western sensibilities. It's set in the rustic and colorful Punjab and explores the dingy underbelly of Delhi.
