50 Cent to the rescue! Forest Whitaker was unable to continue in his role as Hale Caesar in Sylvester Stallone's upcoming film 'The Expendables,' but 50 Cent was ready to step in and make the character his own. 50 Cent will join an all-star cast that includes Academy Award nominee Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, WWE Hall Of Fame wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin, and last but not least, "Ah-nold" himself, the California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The movie, slated to be released in 2010, is about a group of men headed to South America to murder and overthrow a dictator who has been causing so many problems to his country over the last 20 years. Filming has been taking place in L.A., Louisiana, and Brazil. Well, considering 50 Cent survived 9 gunshot wounds, he'll be able to hold his own in a movie where he tries to overthrow a dictator. It may be risky business, but 50 looks eager to be up to the task.
Some people aren't happy with the switch from Forest Whitaker to 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, citing 50's less than stellar acting career to this point and of course losing out on the skills of Academy Award winner Whitaker. Sylvester Stallone wants to quiet those critics.
"The anger of the casting of 50 Cent is understandable, but not fair," Stallone told Ain't It Cool News. "A player is only as good as his coach. If a man can communicate in one medium, he can communicate in another if his strengths are brought out and he has the support of well-wishers. So, trust me, the change of Forest Whitaker to 50 Cent a.k.a. Curtis Jackson is a good one."
50's not exactly immune to box office failures himself. Being cast alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in 'Righteous Kill' and still have it be a disaster is a hard thing to accomplish. Sylvester Stallone has had a major film career, highlighted by movies such as 'Rocky' and its famous series, 'Rambo' and 'Cobra.' Now he's made his fair share of flops (remember 'Get Carter' anyone? Yeah I found it forgettable too), but he's asking the public to trust his vision on this movie.
"Nobody wanted Eric Roberts over Ben Kingsley, but I believe it's a vastly improved cast," Stallone said. "The point is, you either believe in me and the project, setting your personal feelings aside, or you take a darker approach, which really serves no purpose since your insight and suggestions and overall are a great thrill for me to behold everyday I sign on."
So, it's time to turn it over to the readers. What do you guys think of 50 Cent in a movie with Sylvester Stallone and company? Do you think he will do a good job as Hale Caesar or will he fall short? Post up a comment with your thoughts.
