G-Deep boasts quite an impressive track listing. He has a successful Punjabi album, a Bollywood song, and he has worked with the Wu Tang Clan and Mobb Deep on the hip-hop scene. Now G-Deep is ready to captivate the hearts of his own people and has released O'Billo, a Hindi album for the Desi masses. Does G-Deep impress us?
What We Think:
The album opens up with the title single "O'Billo" which has grown on us as a peppy track. "Nach Lai" is G-Deep's collaboration with the Wu Tang Clan and we are already fans of this tune. "Mahi Mera" is G's next single because he is a fan of this song. It showcases G-Deep's vocals which are powerful yet vulnerable; perfect for the ambiance of "Mahi Mera."
]"Saali Zindagi" tells the day to day struggles many people face. We like the production of the song and the idea, but overall, the track doesn't seem to work. "Baaton Mein" could be a good tune, but at one point the production sounds like someone is passing gas or blowing raspberries and we can't take this song seriously.
Adding some pop flair, "Kitne Karib" is another offering on this album. The song is good, but nothing special. "Kya Mange" has a great vibe to it and adds a new sound. The sassy "Roop Duhaii" wraps up the album; it's a decent tune.
Best Songs:
Nach Lai
Chithi
Mahi Mera
Final Verdict:
After impressing us with his Punjabi music and latest hip-hop collabo with H of Mobb Deep, G-Deep doesn't hit the spot with O'Billo. Certain songs have great productions and G-Deep has an impressive voice, but something is amiss with each of these tracks. Some songs sound dated, others are cheesy and not edgy enough. We don't see any of these songs topping the charts or making a lasting impression on listeners.
