Desi Hits!: Tell us about your album. Where did the title "Re-lit" come from?
Bhangra artist Northern Lights is set to drop his album "Re-Lit" on October 30. So Desi Hits! had a chat with London based DJ Tarv to find out more about his music and future projects. You have already heard the single "Akhan De Ishareh," now check out our exclusive interview. Desi Hits!: So who is Northern Lights? I have been on the scene for quite a few years, my first album "Sparked" dropped in 2005. I’ve been a radio presenter, I started out as a DJ but I’m more of a full-time producer now so it’s all about the music. It’s just me, I have worked with various people such as tour DJs and tour dancers as apart of my entourage." Desi Hits!: Where did the name Northern Lights come from? Basically I moved to Scotland and I was doing a radio show there and the album was progressing and I couldn’t think of a name that wasn’t too cheesy, so one of my geeky friends talked about this phenomenon, the sky with all the lights, the northern lights, and me and my friends thought it was cool . I represent Scotland, but my roots are from Punjab. It’s like a curry, you gotta put all the right ingredients in, if you forget one, it’s not gonna taste the same. It’s my baby. "Re-lit" had to live up to the "Sparked" reputation so I took my time, some people thought it was too long but I wanted to be happy and ready. It’s a more mature sound. Desi Hits!: Who do you wanna collaborate with next? : I have worked with a lot of people already. Rishi, Mumzy, Bobby, so on the Asian scene I’ve worked w a lot of people. In terms of Western artists I would love to work with Calvin Harris, Groove Armada and of course Timberland and Jay-Z! Desi Hits!: Do you have a message for your fans on DesiHits.com? I hope you enjoy the album, thank you for your support, keep supporting Northern Lights and the scene. Keep your love for Asian music. One love.
