India turns 61 this year, and the brown boys, brown girls, uncles and aunties of NYC come out in droves to witness the madness of the parade down 5th Avenue. The sexy Deepika Padukone is the Grand Marshall of this year's parade. Last year Priyanka Chopra held that honor with a special end of parade performance by Urban Desi star Raghav.
The first extravaganza hosts Def Jam rapper Fabolous along with one of DesiHits.com's Top 5 MCs - Nivla. Zafer Ahmed of Define Entertainment came up with the block party concept for the event - something that has never been done before in the scene. The event will be hosted at two clubs adjacent to one another and guests will enter from one club into the other. Oxygen and The Madison, two clubs coincidentally around the corner from the parade endpoint, will host the event. Nivla will be accompanied by P Oberoi and GOP Virk is also scheduled to perform.
The other event hosts DesiHits.com 2008 Artist of the Year, Jay Sean, who is set to perform tracks from his new album 'My Own Way'. Will he perform the Hindi version of 'Ride It'? We have to wait and see. The event will be held in Times Square at Spotlight.
We all know that after these events there are crazy after parties! As the saying goes, "After the parade is the after party and"...well, you know how they party in New York City. If you don't, then you need to experience it for yourself, as the after parties fiercely compete with one another to have the best talent, the best music and the best crowd. Doors open at 4pm, and the parties don't stop till about 12 hrs later that's right - 4am.
Both events have the talent, the DJs, and the venues. Where will you be on Sunday night? If it's at home, then you're officially an Auntie or an Uncle! Happy Anniversary India!
