Filmi Fridays returned last week with a vengence with a serious drama, 'Sarkar Raj.'  But this week we've got the supposed all out comedy, 'Mere Baap Pehle Aap'!

MOVIE REVIEW

CAST:  Akshaye Khanna, Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Genelia D'Souza

After watching a few previews that seemed to be pretty funny, I walked in thinking, okay here's a few hours to kill on a light hearted throw away film, but instead it turned out I left the theatre in a worse mood then I entered!  Let's just say I was one of about 3 people left in the theatre by the end! 

PLOT:  Janaradhan (Paresh Rawal) and Gaurav (Akshaye Khanna) have a twisted father son relationship, in that the son treats his father as his child!  Gaurav even locks his father up at times!  Well he has good reason - to keep him away from his marriage hungry friend Mathur (Om Puri).  Things change though when Gaurav reunites with his childhood friend Sheekah (Genelia D'Souza) who's teacher turns out to be Janaradhan's first love!  From there the plan is to bring the two together.

THE GOOD:  Although the movie itself isn't great the idea behind the story is a novel one.  That's not to say there aren't a few moments you'll laugh at as well as a few enduring moments.  Paresh Rawal's acting is definitely the saving grace of the film.  Akshaye Khanna too, does well in his role as the angry young son.  The first half is definitely better then the latter.

 
THE BAD:  Don't let the film's funny previews fool you, this is definitely not a laugh out loud riot by any means!  Genelia does average, but for the most part she's just plain annoying.  While the first half is average the second half drags on and on... it's definitely too long.   

THE VERDICT:  Do we even have to say it?  Even if you had 3 useless hours to kill, I would not recommend this movie, not even on DVD.  While the first half might viewable, the second half kills any reason for seeing the flick.  I wish I could've sent my father to see it instead!
