From American politics to the western pop scene, it seems like Desis are everywhere!
While many wouldn’t expect young Desis to be making a mark on the Jazz scene - even though Desis are making waves in all types of industries - it's not so surprising that American Desi Vijay Iyer is known to be "among the most daringly original jazz artists of the under-40 generation," according to Howard Reich from the famous American newspaper Chicago Tribune.
His album, "Historicity," received universal acclaim across Europe and The New York Times wrote "Presto! Here is the great new jazz piano trio."
Iyer’s passion for the scene exhumes from his work and today he spoke to reporters about the history of the Jazz scene as well as his trip to New Orleans post hurricane Katrina.
"I have been to New Orleans after Katrina for a conference on music and activism and it has been five years, it’s shocking to see a thriving neighborhood turn into a field."
The musician also spoke about how the world didn’t always appreciate New Orleans. "A lot of people didn’t have an appreciation for New Orleans culture until after it was demolished."
Well the industry definitely appreciates Iyer who keeps making waves on the Jazz scene! Check out a video of Vijay Iyer talking about his album "Historicity."
