It was the perfect day for a Holi celebration as New York's yearly Phagwah parade took place in Queens this sunny Sunday.
Numerous Holi participants had gathered to dance and throw colors and water at each other in celebration of Prahlad's escape from the evil demon Holika.
Phagwah, or Holi, is a Hindu festival that Indo-Caribbeans immigrants from Guyana and Trinidad brought to Queens, starting the parade in 1990.
And of course DH! was there this Sunday to take in all the action! After the joyful and colorful parade through Richmond Hill to Phil Rizutto Park, people immediately started dancing and throwing more colors around! Children were playing at the playground and bands hit the drums in spontaneous jam sessions.
Before various performances took to the stage, local politicians showed their respect for the community and their interest in the Holi festivities as they held speeches on the importance of intercultural relations.
Even New York governor hopeful Rick Lazio was there to talk about his race for governor of New York against State Attorney Andrew Cuomo.
