Being a movie star isn't always easy, being a movie star with opinions outside of the world of cinema isn't eaiser, and being a movie star with opinions that everyone listens to is even harder!
The King of Bollwyood, Shahrukh Khan, recently suggested that Pakistanis should also be drafted to play on Indian cricket teams, a seemingly innocent statement from a cricket team owner who seeks ot have the best players on his team.
But while many respected SRK's opinion and saw it as his right to express himself, others have not taken the statement as lightly.
Bal Thackeray, the leader of the extremist political party Shiv Sena, for example, was outraged at the suggestion and has staged protests against the star, saying that he insulted Mumbai, victim of terrorist attacks in 2008 by a group of Pakistani-based terrorists.
But Shahrukh, along with other Bollywood actors and actresses who have been bullied by Bal Thackeray in the past, refuses to give into this sort of intimidation.
Shahrukh took to Twitter today to once again clarify his thoughts:
"today i feel i will stand by with even more strength for all that stands for being indian & my country. i love india & indians. i love mumbai & mumbaikers & once again reiterate i sincerely from the bottom of heart regret having hurt so many."
But only time will tell if this controversy will have an impact on King Khan's latest movie "My Name is Khan," which ironically deals with inter-religious hate and sends out a message that Indians, whether Muslim or Hindu, need to come together, especially in times of hardship.
Do you think people will boycott "My Name is Khan?" in light of this controversy? Drop us a line.
